公共英语教学是高等职业教育的一个有机组成部分，是必修的一门公共基础课，授课对象为我院三年制高职一年级各专业的学生。该课程以教育部高等教育司制定的《高职高专英语课程教学基本要求》为指导，遵循“以应用为目的，实用为主，够用为度”的原则，强调语言基本知识、基本技能的训练和语言应用能力的培养并重。主要讲授英语基础知识，具体内容包括听说读写技能的训练等内容。
二、教学目的和教学方法
教学目的：
通过教学，使学生掌握一定的英语基础知识和技能，具有一定的目标语言综合应用能力，即一定的听、说、读、写、译的能力，从而能借助词典阅读和翻译有关英语业务资料，在涉外交际的日常活动和业务活动中进行简单的口头和书面交流。使学生能以英语为工具，获取专业所需的信息，指导学生掌握良好的英语学习方法，为进一步提高英语学习水平奠定良好的基础。
教学方法：
本课程以课堂教学为主，结合作业、自学、测验等教学手段和形式完成课程教学任务。
以社会需求为出发点，以“以应用为目的，实用为主，够用为度”为原则，突出实用性，培养应用型人才；整合教学内容，促进学生听、说、读、写、译各项语言技能的协调发展；以任务型教学为主要的教学方法，实施研究性学习，进行英语学习策略训练，采用现代化教学手段，培养具有创造性、跨文化交际能力和自主学习能力的人才；逐步培养学生的自主性学习能力，在教学的实施过程中积极贯彻“以科学的理论为指导，灵活多样地展开教学”的原则，探索并实施以学生为主体的教学模式，充分调动学生的学习积极性，培养学生的自主学习能力，使英语学习从课内延伸到课外，形成英语学习的新风气，新形势。注重学生在完成一系列任务中提高交际能力，达到实践目标。
